1001 High Quality Anti-Graffiti Paint

Solvent -borne anti-graffiti finish

TECHNICAL DATA SHEET (TDS)

1001 High Quality Anti-Graffiti is a Solvent borne two pack, White or Clear anti-graffiti coating for a variety of substrates that develops early resistance to tagging with spray paint. Graffiti can be cleaned from a substrate protected with 1001 High Quality Anti-Graffiti Paint using 1001 Graffiti Cleaner.

Exterior / Interior

Typical uses: Surfaces prone to graffiti attack

Performance -

1. Spray paint graffiti can be removed from a substrate protected with 1001 High Quality Anti-Graffiti Paint after 48 hours cure using 1001 Graffiti Cleaner.
2. Enables use of high performance urethanes when spray application is difficult or undesirable.
3. Self-priming on cementitious and fibre cement panels (see Application).

Limitations -
1. Do not apply at temperatures below 10°C or above a relative humidity of 85%. These application requirements must also be met until the applied coating has achieved touch dry.
2. In early stages of curing, film may be susceptible to mechanical damage.
3. Not suitable as an anti-graffiti paint over alkyd or chlorinated rubber based paints subject to exterior exposure.
4. To prevent ghosting when removing marker pen, the applied coating must have cured for a minimum of four weeks.
5. Not recommended as a waterproofing system for concrete block and honed concrete block construction.

Surface Preparation -

Cementitious Substrates -

  • Leave new concrete to cure for a minimum of 28 days before painting.
  • Ensure surfaces are free of laitance / loose particles, from release agents, curing agents, oil, grease and other penetrating contaminants.

Fibre cement -

  • Clean down to remove all dirt, dust and loose material.
  • Ensure the surface is free from oil, grease and mould.
  • Residues and dust from old paint systems containing lead or chromate may be dangerous to the health of the operator and the environment.
  • Ensure approved procedures are put in place to safeguard against this.

Application -

Mixing - Add total contents of the hardened container to the total contents of the base. Mix until uniformly blended using a wide flat stirrer or power mixing. Add back the mixed material to the hardener container (approximately two thirds full) and hand mix or re-lid and shake for 1-2 minutes to incorporate any hardener that was not decanted in the first instance. Add this back to the previously mixed paint and re-mix until uniform. Allow the mixed material to stand for 10 minutes prior to using.

To Apply - Apply with spray. Seal cementitious substrates by applying a coat of 1001 High Quality Anti-Graffiti Primer thinned 20% with Glossy’s GT-60 reducer and allow to cure, followed by one or two unthinned additional coats as required.

Thin only with Glossy’s GT-60 reducer when applying under hot or windy conditions. Care is advised when applying thinned product as sag of the wet film may occur.
Semi-gloss clear systems for concrete / fibre cement: Apply 1001 High Quality Anti-Graffiti gloss as the sealer coat, followed by a minimum of two coats of 1001 High Quality Anti-Graffiti semi-gloss.

Application over aged/weathered waterborne acrylic coatings -
Scrub down the painted areas using wire, scrubber or sandpaper then wash down with fresh water and allow the washed surfaces to dry completely before applying the graffiti clear system. Prime the Surface with 1001 Anti-Graffiti Primer Coat before applying 1001 Anti-Graffiti Gloss.

Consult Glossy for advice on application of the anti-graffiti clear system to aged acrylic paint finishes showing signs of heavy chalking, as re-application of the acrylic base paint may be required prior to application of the 1001 High Quality Anti-Graffiti System.

Application of 1001 High Quality Anti-Graffiti to substrates painted with a non U.V. stable paint system is not recommended.
GASSING WILL OCCUR IF UNTHINNED PRODUCT IS APPLIED AT WET FILM, THICKNESSES IN EXCESS OF 125 MICRONS. When applying thinned product maximum wet film thickness to avoid gassing is dependent upon the amount of GT-60 added.
Do not use mixed products beyond the stated pot life for the given temperature. Do not apply at temperatures below 10ºC or when it is liable to drop below 10ºC during the drying period.

CAUTION - Do not tightly re-seal quantities of leftover mixed product, as the mixed product generates carbon dioxide gas, which can cause the lid of a tightly sealed can to pop with force. Leave the mixed material in a safe place for at least 48 hours for outgassing to be completed before sealing cans for disposal to an approved hazard waste site.

Safety precautions

  1. Consult Safety Data Sheet for this product prior to use. Users should ensure that they are familiar with all aspects concerning safe application of this product. IF IN DOUBT, DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT
  2. The hardener is sensitive to moisture and should be kept tightly sealed when not in use.
  3. The hardener contains a trace (less than 1%) of hexamethylene di-isocyanate, which is of course further diluted when blended with the base.
  4. When brushed or rolled, normal ventilation procedures used with solvent borne systems will ensure that the level in the air never reaches a M.A.C. of 0.02 p.p.m. If adequate ventilation is not available, a respirator should be worn.
  5. When sprayed, mixed products may be harmful by inhalation.
  6. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves, eye and face protection, including suitable breathing protection such as an air supplied respirator or hood.
  7. Do not breathe vapour. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If eyes become contaminated, flush with water for a minimum of 15 minutes. SEEK MEDICAL AID IMMEDIATELY. Wear suitable clothing, gloves and eye and face protection.
