Technical Data Sheet
1001 SKPS Metal Primer ST – Code: YG003
(Protective Coating)
1001 SKPS Metal Primer ST is a corrosion inhibiting and high solids alkyd primer with Zinc Phosphate. It offers good corrosion resistance for ferrous surfaces in mild to moderately corrosive environments. It works best when used as a primer for properly cleaned or pre-treated metals.
It is not intended for use on the inside of potable water tanks.
Features:
- Effective rust protection
- Good adhesion to substrate
- Suitable for correctly prepared new or lightly rusted iron and mild steel
- Non-drip, easy brushing with good flow and levelling properties
Advantages:
- Excellent Corrosion Resistance
- Fast Drying
Technical Properties:
Drying time:
Surface dry – less than 30 minutes
Hard dry – less than 18 hours
Finish : Smooth and Matt
Colours : White, Grey, Black
Covering Capacity: 13 – 16 square metres per L per coat (25 microns DFT)
Pack Sizes : 20 Litres, 4 Litres, 1 Litre
Thinner for Adjustment: 1001 Reducer N05 or 1001 Reducer N10
Flash Point (Closed Abel’s) Apparatus: Above 250C
Application Procedure:
- Ensure the surface is free from loose particles, dirt, dust, moisture or adhesion inhibiting compounds like grease, wax and oil.
- Non-ferrous metals must be primed with metal pre-treatment wash primer. Badly rusted or pitted steel should be cleaned by commercial sandblasting and primed the same day.
- Apply one coat of primer by spray or brush and allow it to dry for 6 to 8 hours before the second coat.
- If needed, use solvent-based putty to fill cracks and dents to make the surface uniform.
- After sanding the puttied surface, apply another coat of 1001 SKPS Primer and allow it to dry overnight.
- Before the application of topcoat, lightly sand the surface with emery paper and wipe clean.
- Suitable Top Coats : 1001 Homecare Enamels ST, Autoking Coatings ST, 1001 Epoxy Coatings ST
